Focaccia or Pizza?

image post

So I have posted before about making homemade pizza dough and it is easy to make, able to get all the family involved and just tasty. The other day I was browsing through one of my old cookbooks Baking with Julia and found a focaccia recipe I wanted to try my hand at. Let just put this out there, I am not a good baker so it needs to be straight forward, and of course Julia Child comes to the rescue.

The original idea was to make some bread for dinner, or possibly some sandwich rolls for a grilled chicken sandwich. Was sure, but knew I wanted to give this a try.

** Adapted from Baking with Julia

  • 1 1/4 cups tepid water
  • 1 pack active dry yeast
  • 2 tbls. Olive Oil
  • 3 1.4 cups bread flour
  • 2 tsp. salt
  1. Dissolve the yeast in half the water and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.
  2. Add the remaining water and oil together
  3. Whisk the flour and salt together.
  4. Pour all the wet mixtures into the flour and mix with rubber spatula until everything is combined.
  5. Mix on low speed for 3 minutes, or until dough comes together
  6. Then mix on medium high for 10 more minutes.
  7. You should end with a soft, slightly moist, extremely elastic dough.
  8. Place in oiled bowl, let rise until it has doubled in size.
  9. Let rise until it doubles in size again.
  10. Divide the dough into three equal portions and shape each piece into a ball.
  11. Place each ball into a oiled large zip lock bag and refrigerate over night.

You now have Focaccia dough!

Ok this is were it changed from focaccia to pizza! I was running late, needed dinner or the table. I didn’t have time to make the bread or rolls or anything else I had originally planned. What can I do? I know, lets make pizzas instead.

The difference between foaccia dough and pizza dugh is not very much (I do put honey in my pizza dough). But both doughs are soft, elastic dough’s you can stretch and put things on top right?

That’s what I made! Pizza from Focaccia dough, Enjoy!
